Born with tiller in hand, Tristan Northway has lived and breathed fishing from the moment he was born, growing up in Brixham as a part of a local fishing family.

Tristan’s love for trawling began on the first day he ever went to sea, despite being sea sick throughout that fateful day would spawn a life-long love and career. And the boat he went out on that first day will be familiar to many of you, the Adela.

Tristan’s passion is supplying great quality local fresh fish to his loyal customers.

TRISTAN NORTHWAY The Man Behind the Boat

Tristan’s love affair with the Adela and with U10 boats started right then, way back in the early 2000’s. But it wasn’t all plain sailing for the first 6 months of fishing Tristan was constantly sea sick but his love of the job pushed him on. Following this Tristan started working through various boats of different sizes and specialities.

From about 17 years of age Tristan briefly went onto the bigger boats like beam trawlers and scallopers, but he quickly found that big boats just don’t ‘do it’ for him. After that he swapped to Brixham day boats (50Ft), and that was better. Tristan has always said he had gained valuable experience from every boat that he has worked on. But his heart was always with the small boats, and he hoped that one day he would own a small trawler like the Adela and work it single-handed.

So finally, having learned the ropes on every type of fishing vessel from day boats to large trawlers, he decided to pursue a lower impact form of fishing and invested in a 30-foot inshore trawler, one he was already familiar with. The Adela is fondly known as the smallest fishing boat in Brixham, at just 9 metres long. But what the Adela lacks in size she makes up for with charisma and good looks, Tristan often refers to her as the prettiest boat in Brixham.
